CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami defensive end Allen Bailey has been selected to the preliminary watch list for the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award. Bailey is one of 13 Atlantic Coast Conference players who made the cut.
Bailey was an All-ACC first team selection on defense in 2009. He led the `Canes in sacks (7.0) and tackles for a loss (11.0). He played both defensive tackle and defensive end during the season and led all UM defensive linemen with 34 total tackles on the year. He started 10 of the 13 games he played in. Bailey ranked fourth in the ACC in sacks per game (0.58) and tied for seventh in tackles for a loss per game (0.92). He was named first team All-ACC at defensive tackle by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association, Rivals.com and Phil Steele. Bailey was awarded the Strength Training Athlete of the Year at the team’s annual awards banquet.
The award is given annually to the best lineman on either side of the ball, or linebackers that line up near the line of scrimmage. Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
The Rotary Lombardi Watch List will be periodically updated and revised through the conclusion of the voting to determine the 12 semifinalists for 2010.
The 41st Rotary Lombardi Award will be held Dec. 7-8, 2010 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
