Hurricanes Finish Eighth at ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Begona Sarabia finished 27th and the University of Miami women’s golf team took eighth at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships Sunday at the Sedgefield Country Club.
Wake Forest won the team title after finishing 17-over par 869, which was four strokes better than second place Virginia (873) and five strokes better than third place Duke (874). Florida State (901) and North Carolina (906) finished out the top five. Wake Forest’s Michelle Shin shot two-under par 211 to win the individual championship.
Sarabia posted Miami’s top score on the day at eight-over par 79. She made a pair of birdie shots on holes 2 and 15.
Junior Christina Hirano had Miami’s second best score of the day at nine-over par 80 while freshman Shelby Gilbert posted an 81, junior Maria Ronderos shot an 83 and Melanie Kleiner shot 85.
The ACC also recognized long-time UM head coach Lela Cannon, who is retiring at the conclusion of the season. The conference presented Cannon with token of appreciation for her 27-years of coaching at Miami.
