Shenise Johnson Named to All-ACC Defensive Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that University of Miami sophomore Shenise Johnson had been named to the All-ACC Defensive Team.

Johnson was the team leader in steals for the second consecutive year with 91 on the season, while her 3.7 steals per game in ACC play ranked second in the conference. Also for the second straight year, the guard led Miami with 7.6 rebounds per game – ranking sixth in the conference.

Earlier this week, Johnson became the first Hurricane since Tamara James in 2006 to be named First Team All-ACC. Last season, Johnson was named Honorable Mention All-ACC and to the ACC All-Freshman team.

Also this week, it was announced that Johnson was one of 30 women to be named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Candidate list.

Johnson, a Henrietta, N.Y. native, has had another remarkable season for the Hurricanes in her sophomore campaign. She scored 18.6 points and led the ‘Canes with 7.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists per game.

Maurita Reid (2007-08) is the only other player in Miami history to be named to the All-ACC Defensive Team.

Virginia’s Monica Wright was the named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
