Ronderos Leads Hurricanes on Day 1 at UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. – Junior Maria Ronderos shot one-over par 73 in the first round and sits tied for 37th after the first two rounds to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on the first day of the UCF Challenge at the RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.
Miami is 17th after shooting 311 in round one and 318 in round two. Georgia State leads the tournament followed by Texas A&M, UCF and Baylor who are all tied for second. Oklahoma and College of Charleston are both tied for fifth.
Ronderos had a good first round as she birdied four times to shoot one-over. She shot two-under par 34 on the front nine. She birdied twice in round two, but shot eight-over par 80. She is nine-over heading into the final round.
Freshman Shelby Gilbert also is in the top 50 going into the final round. Gilbert shot four-over par 76 in round one and seven-over par 79 in round two.
Junior Jennifer Hirano bounced back in round two to shoot six-over par 78, which included two birdies. She posted a nine-over par 81 in the opening round of the tournament.
Sophomore Begona Sarabia shot nine-over 81 in the both the first and second rounds.
The Hurricanes wrap up play at the UCF Challenge Tuesday morning. A shotgun start is slated for 8 a.m.
