Hurricanes Close Out Successful Tyson Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track team completed the Tyson Invitational on Saturday, with the women’s 4×400 relay team shutting the door on a very successful weekend at the site of this year’s NCAA Indoor National Championship, the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Saturday’s action was highlighted by the performance of the women’s 4x400m relay team. Kristy Whyte, Ti’erra Brown, Takecia Jameson and Tameka Jameson ran a provisional qualifying time of 3:36.18 and were the fifth college team to finish.
With her season-best effort, Takecia Jameson crossed the finish line in 24.53 seconds in the 200m dash. Her sister Tameka Jameson finished right behind at 24.58 seconds. The two times in the event are the best of the 2010 season for the Hurricanes.
Megan Novinger reached her second-best height of the season at 1.70m (5-07.00) in the high jump, finishing fifth out of 26 competitors.
The men’s 4x400m relay team of Brandon Harris, Patrick Blackie, Devon Hill and DeMarcus VanDyke ran the season’s best time at 3:15.81
In action late Friday night, Miranda Wilson reached a career-best in the weight throw and moved into fourth place in Miami’s record book with a mark of 17.60m (57-09.00).
Earlier on Friday, Brown won the 60m hurdles for the second time this season. Deandra Doyley leapt a season-best 6.30m (20-08.00) in the long jump, improving her provisional mark – placing sixth (fourth collegiately) in the invitational. Doyley will be competing Saturday in the triple jump invitational.
In the open long jump, Finch took the individual title with a mark of 6.12m (20-01.00), her season-best effort.
Sophomore Brian Laskowski won his first collegiate event on Friday, finishing with a time of 1:52.45 in the 800m run. Laskowski along with freshmen Greg Kaczka (1:54.58) and Matthew Wilson (1:57.45) ran the Hurricanes’ fastest three times of the season on day one of the Tyson Invite.
After advancing through the preliminary heats with a time of 7.89 second, senior Cory Nelms placed fifth in the 60m hurdle final at 7.85 seconds – matching his best time of the season.
Ashley Dukes finished the consolation final of the 60m dash with the best collegiate time at 7.36 seconds. Former Hurricane and current volunteer assistant coach Murielle Ahoure placed one spot ahead of Dukes with a time of 7.30 seconds.
Miami will have two weeks to prepare for the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va., Feb. 25-27.
