Laura Kuhn Receives Thirty Under 30 Volleyball Award

Lexington, Ky. – Recently completing her second year as an assistant coach for the University of Miami volleyball program, Laura Kuhn has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a Thirty Under 30 Award recipient.
This award was created in 2009 to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. A nomination period was held in the fall, with the requirement that the nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2010. The list of winners was announced in the February/March edition of Coaching Volleyball.
Kuhn, a 2005 graduate of Georgia Tech and Tiffin, Ohio native, serves under UM head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch, helping with player development on and off the court, as well as serving as UM’s recruiting coordinator. She also serves in a number of areas pertaining to the day-to-day operations of the program. She played an instrumental part in Miami bringing in a stellar 2010 recruiting class, helping the Hurricanes ink two Under Armour All-Americans.
In her playing career at Georgia Tech, Kuhn lettered through four seasons with the Yellow Jackets, helping them win three ACC regular season championships, one ACC tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons. The teams advanced to the “Sweet 16” and “Elite Eight” in 2003 and 2004. Kuhn played the right side position her final three years for the Yellow Jackets, starting all three seasons.
Of the thirty recipients on this year’s Thirty Under 30 award list, 19 are assistant coaches and 11 are head coaches. Nine are NCAA Division II women’s coaches, eight are NCAA Division I women’s coaches, three are NCAA Division III women’s coaches, three coach NCAA Division I-II men, two are from Two-Year Colleges, two are club coaches and one is a high school girls coach. Two of the recipients double-up as club coaches.
