Hirano's Two-Under Leads Women's Golf in First Round

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Sophomore Jennifer Hirano turned in her second best score of the season firing a two-under par 70 in the second round to move into a tie for eighth place and lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on the first day at the Palmetto Intercollegiate Monday at the Oak Point Golf Course.
East Tennessee State leads the tournament. Maryland, Campbell, Kennesaw State, East Carolina and Georgia State are also in the top five. The Hurricanes currently sit 17th after shooting 325 in round one before bouncing back to shoot a season-best 301 in the second round.
Hirano, who fired a career-best 69 at last week’s Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, had another good second round score for the second straight week. She tied for the second best round of the day shooting two-under par 70. Hirano shot four-over par 76 in her opening round.
Junior Maria Ronderos is tied for 28th place after shooting one-over par 73 in round two. She shot five-over par 77 in the opening round and is six-over par going into the final round.
Freshman Shelby Gilbert continued to play well for the Hurricanes as she turned in a second round score of four-over par 76, bouncing back after shooting an 80 in the opening round.
Freshman Jaime Ritter rounded out the scoring for the Hurricanes as she shot 92 in the opening round and an 82 in round two.
The Hurricanes wrap up play Tuesday morning at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. A shotgun start gets underway at 9 a.m.
