Hirano in Ninth after Day One at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore Jennifer Hirano turned in a career-best two-under 69 in the second round to put her in the top 10 and lead the University of Miami women’s golf team after the first two rounds of the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate at Greenville Country Club on Monday.
East Tennessee State and Georgia State are tied for the team-lead followed by East Carolina. Xavier and Elon finish out the top five. Miami sits in 13th place heading into the final day.
Hirano bounced back from a seven-over par 78 in the opening round to shoot two-under in round two. She birdied four times and shot even-par on 12 other holes to finish with a 33 on the back-nine and 36 on the front.
Junior Maria Ronderos also turned in a better second round score as she shot five-over par 76 after shooting nine-over par 80 in the first round.
Sophomore Begonia Sarabia posted Miami’s best opening round score shooting a six-over par 77. She shot an 80 in the second round.
Freshmen Shelby Gilbert and Jaime Ritter rounded out the Hurricanes’ five. Gilbert posted scores of 82 and 80 while Ritter shot an 82 and an 89.
The Hurricanes continue play in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Tuesday morning with an 8:35 a.m. tee time.
