Lauryn Williams Third in 100m at USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Former University of Miami Hurricane Lauryn Williams placed third in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

With the third-best time in the 100-meter dash final (10.96), Williams will represent the United States in this year’s World Track and Field Championships in Berlin, August 15-23. Williams ran a 10.98 second semifinal, earlier in the evening to advance to the final. The former Hurricane is also eligible to participate in the 4×100 relay.

Dominique Darden was the last sprinter to advance to tomorrow’s 400-meter dash final after placing eighth with a time of 52.27 seconds. Darden, received more All-America honors than any other UM student-athlete with 15 from 2003-06.

Thursday evening, sophomore Ti’erra Brown advanced to today’s 400-meter hurdle semifinal with a time of 57.97 seconds, however the Hampton, Va. native was not among the top eight that will run in the finals after posting the 11th-best time of 58.49.

Janet Price, the freshman from Tampa will compete in the 800-meter run in the USA Junior Championships, which will run simultaneously with the USA Championships. Price’s season-best time in the 800-meters is 2:12.50.

Representing the men will be junior Mikese Morse, also from Tampa. Morse, competed in the US Olympic Trials in Eugene a year ago, returns to compete in the long jump. In his first season as a member of the Hurricanes, Morse broke the school record in the indoor long jump (7.90m, 25-11.00) and had a season-best mark of 7.62m (25-00.00) during the outdoor season.

Price and Morse will both begin competition on Saturday at 5:20 and 7:20 p.m. respectively.

Williams will next compete in the 200-meter dash with the first round scheduled to begin at 7:50 p.m.
