Hurricanes Finish Eighth at Qdoba Invitational

Miami Lakes, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore Maria Ronderos shot even-par 72, turning in one of the lowest rounds in the tournament and the Hurricanes finished eighth on the final day of the Qdoba Invitational on Tuesday at Don Shula’s Golf Resort.
Georgia State won the team title finishing 27-over par 891. Tulane had the best team total on the final day to leap Louisville for second place. The Green Wave shot 294 Tuesday giving them a three-day total of 900, one stroke better than third place Louisville (901). NC State (904) and Washington State (909) rounded out the top five.
Ronderos, who tied for 16th, opened the final day shooting 36 on the front nine. She birdied on three of her first six holes. She followed that with a 36 on the back nine, which included another three birdies in the final six holes she played. The 72 matched her season-low round, which she had at the Lady Pirate Invitational back in the fall.
Sophomore Christina Hirano posted the second best score on the day for the Hurricanes, shooting five-over par 77. She tied for 22nd after compiling a three-day total of 230. Freshman Jennifer Hirano tied for 37th and shot 81 in her final round. Freshman Begona Sarabia and senior Anabelle Paulino shot 82 and 84 respectively in their final rounds.
Louisville’s Cindy LaCrosse won the individual title shooting even-par 72 in the final round. She had a three-day total of two-over par 218. Georgia State’s Iliska Verwey was second with a 220 in three rounds. Oklahoma City’s Sydney Cox (221) placed third while there was a four-way tie for fourth between Georgia State’s Cathrine Madsen (223), NC State’s Lauren Daughtie (223), Tulane’s Samantha Troyanovich (223) and Georgia State’s Anna Scott (223).
The Hurricanes will now head to the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic hosted by College of Charleston at Cougar/Oak Point in Kiawah Island, S.C. on Feb. 22-24.
