Women's Golf Third at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

Sophomore Christina Hirano shot even-par 71 and the University of Miami women’s golf team moved into third place after day two at the 2008 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina University at the Greenville Country Club Monday.
Georgia State and East Carolina are ahead of the Hurricanes. Miami is 15 strokes out of first place, but just two strokes behind the host team ECU, which sits second heading into the final day on Tuesday. The Hurricanes posted the third-best team score of the day shooting 291 and are 31-over par for the tournament.
Christina Hirano turned in her best round of the fall season Monday. She shot a 35 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine while picking up four birdies on the day to jump into a tie for 17th.
Sophomore Maria Ronderos continued to have a good tournament shooting one-over par 72 – her best round of the fall, while moving into sole possession of fourth place on the individual leaderboard. She is four-over par 146 for the tournament – just four strokes out of first place.
Ronderos birdied three times while shooting 35 and 37 on the front nine and back nine Monday.
Freshman Jennifer Hirano remained tied for fifth place as she shot two-over par 73. She too birdied three times and is five-over par 147 heading into the final day.
Freshman Begona Sarabia bounced back from a tough day one to shoot four-over par 75. After shooting 39 on the first nine holes, she shot 36 with two birdies helping Miami move into third. Senior Anabelle Paulino posted an 86 to round out the day two scoring for the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes wrap up play at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Tuesday. Tee time is 8 a.m.
