CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – University of Miami sophomore left-handed pitcher Eric Erickson collected Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Monday becoming the second straight Hurricane to earn the honor. The league recognition is the first for Erickson and fourth straight week that a member of the Hurricanes have earned an ACC Weekly honor.

 

A sophomore from Sarasota, Fla., Erickson two-hit Saint Mary’s (Calif.) through seven scoreless innings in leading No. 1 Miami to its fifth shutout win of the season. After allowing a leadoff double, the southpaw retired 21 of the final 22 batters he faced including 12 straight over the final four innings he pitched. On the season, Erickson boasts a 7-0 record with a 2.83 ERA while opponents are hitting just .209 against him.

 

Erickson joined teammates Blake Tekotte, Yonder Alonso and Chris Hernandez who have earned the last three ACC weekly honors. Alonso and Tekotte both earned ACC Player of the Week honors before Hernandez was named ACC Pitcher of the Week last Monday. The Hurricanes have earned ACC weekly honors five times this season with Alonso earning two ACC Player of the Week honors.

 

The Hurricanes return to conference play this weekend, when top-ranked Miami travels to Virginia Tech for it final road series.
