GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Tim Harris made a grand entrance into the 2008 outdoor season with a national best time of 1:47.73 in the 800-meters during the Florida Relays.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
The senior is three weeks removed from adding his fourth All-American honor with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800-meters. Richard Bernard ran his season’s-best time in the same event at 1:52.30. Patrick O’Donnell also competed with and finished with his best time of the season at 1:55.25.
Sophomore Cory Nelms bettered his NCAA regional qualifying time by two-hundredths of a second at 14.02, placing 14th in the 110-meter hurdles. His teammate Brett Jones finished with a time of 15.02 seconds. Nelms also ran to a NCAA qualifying seventh place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 52.36.
Ryan Woodlee ran the 1,500-meters in a season-best time of 3:55.80, over seven seconds better than what he ran at last week’s Hurricane Challenge. Woodlee’s effort led to an eighth place finish. Junior Andrew Chuplis ran to an 18th-place finish at 4:02.80 in his season debut in the event.
Roland DaSilva made his 2008 outdoor debut in the 400-meter hurdles and crossed the finish line at 54.20.
Junior Elan Daviglus registered a mark of 1.95m in the high jump. In the pole vault, senior Casey McGinn matched the second-highest mark of his season at 4.75m.
The Hurricanes will return to action Saturday, April 12, when they host the Miami Elite Invitational at Cobb Stadium.
