Miami's Reid to Compete in Three-Point Shootout

CORAL GABLESThe <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami’s Maurita Reid will compete in the 20th annual Three-Point Shootout in conjunction with the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas.  The contest will take place at St. Mary’s University on Thursday, April 3 and be televised on ESPN at 9 p.m.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

Reid will be one of eight participants in the event along with Allie Quigley of DePaul, Chioma Nnamaka of Georgia Tech, Marcilla Packer of Ohio State, Joyce Ekworomadu of Texas State, Meg Bulger of West Virginia, Kiki Lund of Dayton and Quianna Chaney of LSU.  Participants are subject to change based on tournament results.

 

Reid becomes the second Miami player to be invited to the Final Four Three-Point Shootout joining former UM star Tamara James.  James competed in the shootout in 2006.

 

Reid a 5-8 senior guard from Queens, N.Y. finished the season second in the ACC with 76 made three pointers.  On defense, she annoyed opposing teams with 3.67 steals per game, earning All-ACC Defensive team honors and ACC Honorable Mention.

 

Reid, who for the second year in a row ranks among the top two in the ACC in steals, averages nearly four takeaways per game. 

 

The senior from Queens, N.Y., is also second in the ACC in three-pointers made, and leads her team with 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. 

 

Reid ended her Miami career on the all-time list for made three-point field goals with 142, only 11 shy of Desma Thomas (1992-97) for first place.  Her 110 steals on the season put her in third-place on the all-time list.
