After firing an opening-round one-under-par 71 on Sunday to enter today’s competition in a tie for first place, Steward shot a 72 on Monday to claim sole possession of the lead. With a combined score of 143 after two rounds, she holds the three-stroke advantage over East Carolina’s Colleen Estes entering Tuesday’s final round, set to begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
As a team, the Hurricanes are in third place with a team total of 599, just one stroke behind second-place Louisville (598) and nine strokes behind current leader East Carolina (590).
Miami’s Christina Hirano, Maria Ronderos and Hagen Weintraub – who dropped two strokes from her first-round total to shoot a 75 today – all put together strong rounds on Monday, and are part of a 10-way tie for 17th place, while Brook Stuart is in 66th.
