Golf in 10th at Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Maria Ronderos and Christina Hirano each shot a 79 in the first round to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on day one of the College of Charleston’s Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Oak Point Golf Club on Monday.

The Hurricanes sit in a tie for 10th place with Western Carolina midway through the second of three rounds of play, after competition was suspended due to darkness. The 20 teams will wrap up the second round on Tuesday morning before the third – and final – round of play.

East Carolina took the early lead, shooting a 308 after the first round, while Miami wrapped up the first 18 holes 15 strokes back with a score of 323.

Hirano and Ronderos were in a tie for 21st place after the first round, but after shooting a 59 over 15 holes in the second round, Hirano has moved up 10 spots into a tie for 11th place. Ronderos currently sits in a tie for 14th place after firing a 55 after 14 holes in the second round.

Hagen Weintraub finished the first round in a tie for 50th, but has moved into a tie for 53rd 15 holes into the second round. UM’s Jessica Steward has moved into a tie for 59th place with three holes remaining in the second round, after finishing the first round in a tie for 74th place. Also competing for the Hurricanes is Marion Argi, who is in a tie for 91st with two holes to go in round two.

The second round will start on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun format. Players will begin the third round immediately afterwards.
