UM in Fifth Place After First Round at Myrtle Beach Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Led by senior Jessica Steward and freshman Maria Ronderos, who each fired a one-over-par 73, the University of Miami women’s golf team wrapped up Monday’s first round of the Myrtle Beach Classic in a two-way tie for fifth place.
The quintet of Steward, Ronderos, senior Hagen Weintraub, freshman Christina Hirano and junior Anabelle Paulino combined for a 299 (+11) at the 6,136-yard Grande Dunes Resort Golf Club to finish tied for fifth place with UNC-Wilmington.
Firing a front nine 36 with a 37 on the back, Steward joined Ronderos, who shot front and back nines of 38 and 35, respectively, in six-way tie for 12th place.
Weintraub pieced together a back nine 35 to finish tied for 24th with a 75 while Hirano heads into Tuesday tied for 45th with a 78. Paulino ended the day in a tie for 58th with an 81.
The Myrtle Beach Classic will conclude Tuesday with the final rounds beginning at 8 a.m.
