Hurricanes in 12th After Two Rounds at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – Shooting a second-round 73 Monday, senior Jessica Steward (Mystic, Conn.) continues to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team after two days of competition at the 2007 Cougar Classic at Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club.

Steward, who sits tied 12th on the individual leaderboard at one-over, opened the day with a pair of birdies through the first seven holes before going on to shoot 36 on the front nine and 37 on the back.

Combined, Miami wrapped up the second round in 12th place in the 20-team field with a two-day total 598.

In her first tournament as a Hurricane, Christina Hirano (Pinole, Calif.) fired a 77 to finish round two tied for 56th place with a 152.

Fellow freshman Maria Ronderos (Bradenton, Fla.) bettered her first-round score by three strokes Monday, shooting a 75 to finish tied for 58th while senior Hagen Weintraub (Davie, Fla.) improved two strokes with a second-round 76.

Also competing was junior Anabelle Paulino who put together a second-round 84.

The 2007 Cougar Classic will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round.
