
Hurricanes Cruise to 11-2 win over Wright State

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – Yonder Alonso matched career-highs with four hits and six RBIs while Enrique Garcia struck out seven in seven innings as Miami (29-19) rolled to an 11-2 win over Wright State for its second straight win in the three-game series at Mark Light Field. Roger Tomas reached base in all five plate appearances as he finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
Blake Tekotte, Jemile Weeks, Richard O’Brien and Ryan Jackson each had two hits for the Hurricanes, who out-hit Wright State (27-17), 17-6. Weeks also had a pair of RBIs. Alonso went 4-for-5 with two runs.Garcia improved to 5-3 holding the Raiders to one earned run on six hits. Manny Miguelez and Kyle Bellamy combined to throw two scoreless innings and struck out four.
Garret Holleran (3-5) lasted just 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on 10 hits. Ross Vagedes pitched the two final innings and struck out five. Six different Raiders had at least one hit.
Alonso hit a two-run double to left center which scored Jackson and Tomas putting the Hurricanes ahead, 11-2, in the bottom of the seventh. Jackson started off the seventh with a single to right field. One batter later, Tomas walked. Alonso then followed with his second double of the game pushing the lead to nine runs.
Alonso’s 15th home run scored three runs and gave the Hurricanes a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth after the Raiders had scratched within, 9-2. Tekotte and Tomas both walked to start the sixth. Alonso hit the second pitch he saw over the wall in left center extending Miami’s lead. With one out, Weeks kept things going with a single and Mark Sobolewski extended his hitting streak to 19 games with his 14th double, but Wright State ended the Miami threat recording back-to-back outs for the win.
Wright State’s second run came on Ross Oeder’s RBI single which scored Aaron Fields, who reached on a throwing error.
Miami jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Alonso hit into a fielder’s choice which scored Tekotte.
Wright State tied the game, 1-1, after Casey McGrew ripped a leadoff double to left field. He scored from third on Gerald Ogrinc’s RBI groundout.
Miami retook the lead in the bottom of the third as Tekotte scored again after he hit a one-out single. Back-to-back singles from Tomas and Alonso loaded the bases, before Dennis Raben hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Tekotte.
Jackson’s squeeze bunt single allowed Sobolewski to score from third in the bottom of the fourth giving Miami a 3-1 lead.
The Hurricanes used a three-run fifth inning to go ahead, 6-1. Tomas singled and Alonso doubled. With one out, Weeks laced a doubled down the right field line which scored both runs to make it, 5-1. O’Brien hit a two-out RBI single bringing in Weeks for a five-run lead.
Miami and Wright State wrap up their series Sunday at noon at Mark Light Field. Freshman LHP Eric Erickson (6-3, 2.21 ERA) will face LHP Kyle Kearcher (7-3, 2.84 ERA).
