UM Hosts Jackson State Friday in a 'Throwback to the '70s' Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami makes a special return to the Knight Sports Complex, which served as the home for women’s basketball from 1985-2002, Friday night when it plays host to JacksonState at 7 p.m. in a “Throwback to the 70’s” game.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
As part of the “Throwback to the 70’s” night all tickets are $1 dollar while sodas will be sold for $1 dollar and hot dogs for $1.25. Activities will also include a dance contest at halftime and giveaways including t-shirts and water bottles.

Head coach Katie Meier enters Friday’s game in search of career-victory No. 100 as the Hurricanes take on JacksonState with an overall record of 6-1. Miami’s 6-1 start marks the second-consecutive season and just the seventh time in school history the Hurricanes have won six of their first seven games.
The Hurricanes have won three-straight for the second time this season behind the play of the ACC’s leading scorer, senior guard Renee Taylor (21.0).
Junior guard Maurita Reid ranks second on the team in scoring (15.6) while averaging 18.4 points over the last five games.
Sophomore center Brittany Denson is UM’s top rebounder (8.0) and ranks third on the team in scoring (9.0).

Sixth-year head coach Denise Taylor and the Tigers head to Coral Gables with a 4-1 overall record.
Jackson State is led by the 2006 SWAC Preseason Player of the Year, senior guard Shante Stanford, who averaged 17.5 points in a pair of wins over Southern Mississippi and Alabama-Birmingham last week.
The Series
Friday’s game will mark just the second meeting between Miami and JacksonState. The Tigers won the only previous meeting, a 71-45 victory Dec. 29, 1980.
