CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The list of Miami Hurricanes selected in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft increased to seven after the second and final day of the draft on Wednesday. Juniors Danny Valencia and Eddy Rodriguez and sophomore pitcher Scott Maine were taken today. They join juniors Chris Perez, Jon Jay, Ricky Orta and Tommy Giles in the 2006 Hurricane Draft Class.

Valencia, a third baseman from Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, was taken with the 576th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 19th round. Rodriguez, a 2006 Johnny Bench Award finalist from Coral Gables High School, was the first catcher taken by the Cincinnati Reds with the 594th overall pick in the 20th round. Maine, who is Miami’s No. 1 starting pitcher and a product of William T. Dwyer High School in Palm Beach Gardens, was taken in the 23rd round by the Colorado Rockies with the 678th overall pick.

Perez and Jay were taken by the St. Louis Cardinals on the first day of the 2006 MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon. Perez was taken as the 42nd overall pick in the first compensatory round and Jay was taken with the 74th overall pick in the second round.

Orta was taken with the 111th overall pick in the fourth round by the Seattle Mariners and Giles was selected with the 233rd overall pick in the eighth round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
