Audra Cohen Ranked Second in Latest Fila/ITA Tennis Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore Audra Cohen was ranked second in singles and fifth in doubles in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tuesday.

Cohen, who was ranked third in the March 21st rankings, has defeated 13 ranked opponents this season, including two No. 1 ranked players. Most recently, Cohen topped No. 1 Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech in straight sets last Friday. The Plantation, Fla. native is 22-0 this season and 8-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Cohen pairs up with senior Melissa Applebaum to comprise the nation’s fifth ranked doubles tandem. Miami’s top duo holds a 14-0 record and a 7-0 mark against ranked opponents.

Applebaum moved up to No. 63 in the rankings after defeating two ranked opponents over the weekend. The Coral Gables, Fla. native is 14-10 overall.

Also ranked are freshman Monika Dancevic and junior Audrey Banada. Dancevic, who is 15-3 in dual-match play, is ranked No. 112 while Banada is ranked No. 123 and is 12-5 in dual play.

Miami dropped one spot to sixth but remain in the Top 10 for the fourth consecutive week. The Hurricanes are 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the ACC after posting a 1-1 record over the weekend.

All twelve ACC schools are fielding teams ranked among the Top 70 including six schools ranked in the Top 25. North Carolina leads the ACC at No. 5 followed by No. 6 Miami, No. 12 Georgia Tech, No. 14 Duke, No. 19 Wake Forest and No. 24 Clemson.

The Hurricanes return to action this weekend when they travel to the state of Virginia for their final regular season road trip. Miami will take on No. 62 Virginia Tech Saturday, April 8 at noon before squaring off against No. 29 Virginia at the same time the following day.
