Nielsen Tennis Stadium Friday evening. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
With the loss, the Hurricanes fall to 2-1 overall while the Longhorns improve to 2-2 on the season. Miami will now play in Saturday’s quarterfinal consolation round beginning at 4:00 p.m. EST
Though Texas claimed the doubles point to open the match, Miami was able to walk away with a win at the No. 1 doubles position. The Hurricanes’ unranked duo of sophomore Audra Cohen and junior Audrey Banada upset No.31 Mia Marovic and Kendra Strohm, 8-4.
Monika Dancevic put the Hurricanes on the scoreboard with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory over Ristine Olsen at the No. 5 position. The freshman out of Niagara Falls, Ontario has given up only two games in her last three matches.
The Longhorns then notched another point with a victory at the No. 3 slot when Marovic upended sophomore Patricia Starzyk, 6-4, 6-3.
Miami answered, however, with a win at the No. 1 position. Cohen won her sixth in a row with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over No. 55 Strohm to tie the score at 2-all.
Texas once again took the lead after senior Melissa Applebaum lost in three-sets to Petra Dizdar, 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot.
All eyes turned to Court #6 after Banada defeated Courtney Zauft, 6-4, 7-6 (4) at the No. 2 slot. There sophomore Caren Seenauth and Kelly Baritot engaged in a three-set battle. Seenauth claimed the first-set, 6-1, but could not hold off Baritot who won the second and third set, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the victory for the Longhorns.
