Novice Eight Finishes in Second at Florida Fall Regatta

Nov. 12, 2005

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Miami novice eight finished second at the Florida Fall Regatta held on Canal 54 in Melbourne Saturday afternoon. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

With conditions not conducive to rowing that included a strong headwind ranging from 15 to 20 miles per hour, the Hurricanes’ novice squad finished in a time of 15.44 behind in-state rival UCF.

“I was extremely happy with how they raced,” said novice coach Andrea Saathoff. “Their technique was excellent. A lot of the fall season has to do with building solid technique so that in the spring we have a solid foundation to build on. For a boat with almost all walk-ons, they rowed pretty well.”

Miami’s varsity squad will participate in the Rivanna Romp, held on the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, Va., Sunday. The regatta marks the final competition of the fall season.
