MISSISSIPPI STATE
Head Coach Ron Polk
“The whole key when you’re playing on the road as the number two seed is the second game, and we were maybe six feet away from winning that game yesterday with a Brad Jones home run. Our guys came out here at one o’clock and it’s now a little after midnight. The heat was tough, but the kids battled. We just gave up too many runs. We got 11 hits and had some well-hit balls.”
“I knew with Miami being the host site that it would be tough. The key game was yesterday, the second game. If we win that, it might have been a little different.”
“We had bases loaded two innings in a row, and we left a lot of guys on base. But Miami seemed to knock them in. (Danny) Figueroa was our nemesis. If it wasn’t for him, we win yesterday, probably. But they’re a good ball club.”
MIAMI
Head Coach Jim Morris
“Tonight was the first time we were able to swing our bats like we did during the regular season. It was a great team effort.”
“(Andrew) Lane came in and slammed te door. He was able to stop what Mississippi State was doing. The game was over when he came in, with the way he was pitching.”
Danny Figueroa
“I just came out there and gave it all that I could. As the leadoff hitter, my main goal is to get on base and get the team going.”
On the early lead
“It was great to get ahead because it puts pressure on the other team. We’ve been lacking towards the end in the regular season. It was great getting up 6-0. It took the pressure off [Brandon] Camardese. I think he pitched a great game.”
