Haith To Address Celebration of Minority Academic Achievement

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Frank Haith will address approximately 2800 students, grades 3-12, at the Celebration of Minority Academic Achievement, May 21, at Williams High School in Burlington, N.C.

The event, now in its fourth year, recognizes outstanding academic achievement by minority students in the Alamance-Burlington School System. The Celebration is one of only two of its kind in the United States and was adapted from a similar event held in Rockville, Maryland.

Haith, who will be entering his second season as Miami’s head basketball coach, grew up in Burlington and is a graduate of Western Alamance High School. This past season Haith took a UM program that was picked to finish last in the ACC in the preseason media poll and led it to the post-season for the first time since 2002.

The remarkable turnaround included a 16-13 overall record, seven ACC wins, three wins over ranked opponents and a berth in the National Invitation Tournament. Haith was honored as the National Association of Basketball Coaches District Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award.
