Hurricanes-Yellow Jackets Set to Square-Off at the 2005 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The ninth-seeded University of Miami women’s basketball team will square-off with eighth-seeded Georgia Tech Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the opening first-round game of the 2005 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.

The game will mark the second meeting this season – Georgia Tech won the first, 62-46, January 23 in Coral Gables – and the fifth meeting all-time between Miami (12-15, 4-10 ACC), who leads the all-time series at 3-1, and the Yellow Jackets (13-13, 4-10 ACC).

Friday’s game will be televised live on the ACC’s regional sports networks (Fox Sports Net, Sun Sports, Comcast) with Mike Hogewood calling play-by-play and Charlene Curtis providing color analysis. The game will also be broadcast live on WVUM (90.5 FM) with Jeremy Marks-Peltz and Ben Wolff brining the action from Greensboro.

This year’s ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin with Friday’s UM-Georgia Tech and culminate with the championship game Monday, March 7.

North Carolina claimed the tournament’s top seed, followed by Duke and NC State. Florida State enters as the fourth-seed, Virginia as the fifth, Maryland as the sixth and Virginia Tech as the seventh while Wake Forest and Clemson round out the field as the 10th and 11th seed, respectively.
