Swimming and Diving Weekly Release

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team will close out regular season competition at two different events this weekend. The swimming squad will travel to Houston, Texas where they will face the University of Houston and 9th ranked Texas A&M Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at UH’s CRWC Natatorium, while the diving team will take part in the Orlando All Star International Challenge Saturday and Sunday in Orlando, Fla.

The Hurricanes (6-6, 0-3 ACC) return to the pool after their double-dual meet against Tampa and Florida Atlantic Jan. 29th where Miami defeated Tampa 146-145 but fell to FAU 159-141.

Last season, the Hurricanes downed UH 141 to 100 in their final home meet. Miami won nine of 13 events in the double-dual meet that also included Florida International. Then junior Katalin Ferenczi claimed two top spots for the Hurricanes, winning the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:08.15 and touching first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.47. Tara Erwin set a personal best in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.72 to finish ahead of the Cougars and Golden Panthers. Erwin also took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:25.02.

This will be the Hurricanes’ final regular season competition before their inaugural trip to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships that will begin February 16th in Atlanta, Ga.
