Oct. 6, 2004
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami soccer team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. Thursday to take on second-ranked North Carolina at SAS Soccer Park at 7 p.m.
Head coach Tricia Taliaferro and the Hurricanes (2-6-0, 1-4-0 ACC) will look to snap a two-match losing streak in Wednesday night’s match with the Tar Heels (10-0-1, 3-0-0 ACC) after falling to ACC rival Duke 4-1 this past Sunday at Cobb Stadium. Prior to Sunday’s match with the Blue Devils, Miami suffered 4-2 loss at Clemson Sept. 29.
Sophomore Kelly Pflugner scored Miami’s lone goal against the Blue Devils, becoming the eighth Hurricane to score a goal this season. Junior Lindsey Yach leads UM with two on the year – both of which came on penalty kicks.
Sophomore Sheuneen Ta was credited with an assist on Pflugner’s goal to mark her third on the year – tops among all UM players.
North Carolina enters Wednesday’s match with six days rest after upending NC State 3-1 in their last outing Sept. 30 to remain atop the ACC standings.
Led by top scorer Heather O’Reily, who has posted six goals on the season, the Tar Heels average 2.91 goals per game behind a conference-leading 23.73 shots per game.
This will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
