The Hurricanes extended their NCAA record with their 11th consecutive regional title. Miami will now play the winner of the Oklahoma City Regional next weekend. Miami tied the school record for runs per game in a regional with 14.66. UM scored 44 runs in three games at the Coral Gables Regional, tying a mark set at the 2000 Coral Gables Regional. Since becoming the Head Coach at Miami in 1994, Jim Morris is 32-4 in regional games at Mark Light Field and 39-6 in all regional games. The Hurricanes have won 24 of their last 25 postseason games at Mark Light Field. UM’s only loss in the span was to Florida in the 2003 Coral Gables Regional. Game six was delayed 1:57 in the top of the fourth inning. The Hurricanes are 47-11 on the season and have won 10 games in a row. Miami is now 70-11 in regional games at Mark Light Field and 76-11 in postseason games at home. UM is also 6-0 in super regional games at home. UM has a 151-68 record in postseason play. Jim Burt went 10 for 15 (.667) in the 2004 Coral Gables Regional and was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. He hit two home runs and two doubles, driving in 11 runs. He had 18 total bases in the three games for a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage. Burt moved up several of Miami’s career top 10 lists over the weekend. Burt is now fourth in career doubles (57); third in hit by pitches (26); eighth in RBI (172); sixth in total bases (416); 10th in runs scored (183); ninth in home runs (36); ninth in at bats (746); and eighth in hits (239). Burt also moved up in several top 10 season charts. He is now tied for fourth for hit by pitches in a season (13); tied for fifth in doubles (24); 10th in total bases (157); ninth in RBI (71). Gaby Sanchez tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning with his third home run in the last four games. It was his seventh home run of the season, tying his total from his freshman year in 2003. Miami’s starting pitcher J.D. Cockroft threw 30 pitches in the first inning and 119 for the game. He improved to 9-4 on the year and now has 25 career wins at Miami. Ryan Braun hit his ninth home run of the season in the third inning. It was Braun’s fourth career postseason home run. He now has 26 career home runs. Erick San Pedro hit his 12th home run of the season in the sixth inning. Richard Giannotti hit the first grand slam of his UM career in the eighth inning. Giannotti finish the game with a career-high seven RBI.
