No. 22 Hurricanes Face No. 4 UConn

STORRS, Conn.-The No. 22 University of Miami women’s basketball team travels to Storrs, Conn. to face No. 4 Connecticut Sunday at 2 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion.

The Hurricanes (16-3, 5-3 BIG EAST) will try and snap a two-game losing skid, while the Huskies (17-2, 7-1) are riding a six-game winning streak into the contest.

Miami looks to rebound from a BIG EAST loss to Rutgers (76-69) on Saturday, Jan. 31.

UConn is coming off of an 81-67 upset victory at No. 1 Tennessee Thursday night. The Huskies are 10-1 at home this season.

This will be the 23rd meeting between Miami and Connecticut. UConn leads the series 17-5 over the Hurricanes.

Miami won the first five meetings with UConn before losing the last 17 games. The Huskies have beaten Miami every year for the last 10 years dating back to the 1993-94 season.

Miami has beaten UConn three times in Storrs; the last time was a three-point victory on Jan. 15, 1993.

Tamara James leads the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game and Shaquana Wilkins leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game. Four of Miami’s five starters are averaging in double figures.

Three players are averaging double figures with senior Diana Taurasi leading the team with 17.5 points per game. Barbara Turner and Ann Strother average 13.3 and 11.7 points respectively.
