No. 17 Miami Hosts Rutgers

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 17th ranked University of Miami women’s basketball team will host Rutgers University Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Convocation Center.

The Hurricanes (16-2, 5-2 BIG EAST) look to rebound from Wednesday’s 59-50 loss to Notre Dame.

Rutgers (11-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) is on a two-game winning streak, including a win over Georgetown 67-64 Sunday afternoon.

Miami is in a three-way tie for second place in the BIG EAST standings with Notre Dame and West Virginia. Rutgers is currently in eighth place at 3-3 in conference play.

The Scarlet Knights lead the all-time series 11-7 over Miami. The Hurricanes won the last meeting between the two teams and has won three of the last five.

UM knocked off then No. 18 Rutgers in the BIG EAST tournament quarterfinals in Piscataway, N.J. last season. Miami has only beaten RU twice in Coral Gables, the last time a 65-55 win during the 2001-02 season.

Miami has four players averaging double figures. Tamara James leads the team with 16.2 per game. Chanivia Broussard averages 13.8, Yalonda McCormick averages 12.8 and Shaquana Wilkins averages 11.7 per game. Wilkins also averages 8.1 rebounds per contest.

Rutgers has three starters averaging double-figures with junior Cappie Pondexter leading the team with 17.2 points per game.
