17th-Ranked Women's Basketball Hosts Notre Dame Wednesday

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The No. 17th ranked University of Miami women’s basketball team looks to remain undefeated at home hosting Notre Dame Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.

The Hurricanes enter the contest at the top of the BIG EAST standings at 16-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Miami is a perfect 8-0 at home this season.

The Fighting Irish are currently in fourth place in the standings at 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST. Notre Dame is 2-7 on the road.

The Hurricanes beat Providence 86-67 in their last outing Tuesday, Jan. 20 in Providence, R.I.

Notre Dame knocked off No. 23 Villanova 38-36 Saturday afternoon in the Joyce Center.

The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish will meet for the 15th time tonight. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 11-3.

UM won the last meeting 80-70 in the Joyce Center last season when ND was ranked 16th in the nation. The Hurricanes have only beaten ND one time in Coral Gables and this will be the first meeting in the Convocation Center for the two teams.

The last time UM beat the Fighting Irish at home was a one-point victory (77-76) during the 1997-98 season.

Miami has four players averaging double figures. Tamara James leads the team with 16.3 per game. Chanivia Broussard averages 14.2, Yalonda McCormick averages 13.2 and Shaquana Wilkins averages 11.8 per game. Wilkins also averages 7.9 rebounds per contest.

Notre Dame has two players averaging double figures, with Jacquelin Batteast leading the team averaging 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Megan Duffy averages 11.1 points per game.

Fans are invited to attend an autograph session with the women’s team at the Convocation Center immediately following the game.

The game will air on Sunshine Network at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28th. The game will be broadcast live on WVUM-90.5 FM or via the internet at hurricanesports.com.
