The Hurricanes Open BIG EAST Play At St. John's

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team opens BIG EAST play traveling to Jamaica, N.Y. to face St. John’s Saturday at 2 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
Miami beat No. 24 Vanderbilt in the championship game of the Gatorade Holiday Classic Monday night, improving to 11-0 on the season. The Red Storm are 5-5 overall, coming off a win over Dayton Sunday, Dec. 21.
The Hurricanes completed their non-conference schedule undefeated for the first time ever and is off to their best start in school history.
Miami is one of five teams in the nation that remain undefeated. The list includes; Connecticut (9-0), Minnesota (10-0), Texas Tech (13-0) and Virginia Tech (10-0).
The Hurricanes have not traveled since Nov. 29. UM played the entire month of Dec. at home, winning all six games.
The Hurricanes and Red Storm will meet for the 23rd time. UM leads the all-time series 16-6. Miami is on a six-game winning streak over St. John’s.
The Hurricanes wrapped up BIG EAST play with an 8-8 record last season. The Red Storm went 2-14 in conference play last year.
Tamara James leads the team in scoring with 16.1 points per game. All five starters are averaging in double-digits.
Three starters average double figures with junior Secrett Stubblefield leading the team with 16.1 points per game.
