CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Darius Rice scored 15 points to move to fifthall-time on the Miami scoring list as the Hurricanes got their fourthconsecutive win Tuesday night, defeating Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 75-52.
Miami struggled in the first nine minutes of the game without its startingbackcourt of Armondo Surratt and Rob Hite, who were benched for arriving lateto a team meeting.
IPFW took an early 4-2 lead on a jumper by center David Simon and led untilforward Rodrigue Djahue converted a layup to give Miami a 9-8 lead. TheHurricanes then put together a 16-5 run, with 10 points from Rice.
The Mastodons cut Miami’s lead to 27-19 on a 3-point play from guard TerryCollins, but Miami closed out the half on a 13-4 run. Hite scored 12 points inthe final 11 minutes of the half, with Surratt adding five points and fourassists over the same stretch.
IPFW never got closer than 15 points in the second half, and the Hurricanesput the game away with a 16-5 run.
Simon, who had game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds, was the onlyMastodon to score in double digits. The Mastodons shot just 36.5 percent fromthe field.
Miami improved to 9-3 overall and 8-1 at home, while IPFW fell to 2-10 onthe season with its fourth straight loss.
