Miami Advances To Championship Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team remains undefeated advancing to the championship game of the Gatorade Holiday Classic with a 68-57 victory over Toledo in the first round Sunday night at the Convocation Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Hurricanes (10-0) will face the undefeated Vanderbilt Commodores (10-0) in the championship game Monday at 7 p.m.
Toledo (4-5) and Rhode Island (6-4) will play in the consolation game at 5 p.m. Vanderbilt beat the Rams 74-61 in the first round.
The Hurricanes have won the tournament the last three seasons. UM beat Maryland 97-66 last season to claim the title.
The Hurricanes and Commodores have only faced each other one time. Vanderbilt beat Miami in the second round of the NCAA tournament during the 1991-92 season. The Commodores won 77-67 in Charlottesville, Va.
Sophomore Tamara James (Dania, Fla.) led Miami with 19 points in the win over Toledo. Senior Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Senior Shaquana Wilkins (Plymouth, Fla.) scored 13 points and tallied three blocked shots.
The Hurricanes led 28-19 at halftime shooting 36.7 percent from the field compared to a dismal 28.0 percent for Toledo.
Miami shot a blistering 60.9 percent from the field in the second half to secure the double-digit win over the Rockets.
UM out rebounded Toledo 42 to 28 on the night.
