The Hurricanes Host Holiday Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami women’s basketball team returns to action hosting the annual Gatorade Holiday Classic, Dec. 28-29 in the Convocation Center.
Rhode Island (6-3) and Vanderbilt (9-0) meet in the first round at 5 p.m. Sunday, followed by the Hurricanes (9-0) versus Toledo (4-4) at 7 p.m. Play continues Monday with the consolation game at 5 p.m. and the championship game at 7 p.m.
Miami has won the tournament the last three years, beating Maryland 97-66 last season in the championship game.
The Hurricanes are coming off an 80-73 victory over Richmond last Sunday, Dec. 21.
Senior Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) led the team to victory with a career-high 32 points in the win.
Sophomore Tamara James (Dania, Fla.) leads all scorers with 16.6 points per game. All five UM starters are averaging in double figures.
The Rockets are on a two-game losing skid, falling to Marquette 66-58 Saturday, Dec. 20.
Two Toledo players are averaging in double-digits with senior Kelly Walker leading the team averaging 14.6 points per game.
Miami leads the all-time series with Toledo 2-1 but fell to the Rockets in the last meeting. UM lost 59-58 at home during the 1990-91 season.
