Women's Basketball Hosts FIU In Home Opener

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team will put its five-game winning streak on the line, hosting cross-town rival Florida International University in its home opener Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Convocation Center.

The Hurricanes enter the game 5-0 overall, while FIU is 1-3 on the season.

Miami owns a 29-19 advantage over FIU in the all-time series. The Golden Panthers have beaten Miami in the last three meetings, including an 81-70 victory over UM at Golden Panther Arena last season.

The Hurricanes beat Bradley University 70-52 Saturday night to claim the Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic Championship title. The tournament was hosted by Saint Mary’s in Moraga, Calif.

Junior forward Melissa Knight (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named MVP of the Thanksgiving Classic after averaging 14.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in the tournament.

Senior Shaquana Wilkins (Plymouth, Fla.) was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the tournament.

FIU dropped a 93-86 decision to Iowa on Saturday night in the championship contest of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.

Junior Milena Tomova leads the Golden Panthers averaging 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
