Volleyball Downs St. John's, 3-0

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami volleyball team beat St. John’s 3-0 in a BIG EAST matchup in Jamaica, NY Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricanes improve to 17-6 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST. SJU falls to 22-7 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Miami beat the Red Storm 30-24 in game one, 30-25 in game two and 30-26 in the third game.
“It was so refreshing to see our team rebound and play so much better today than we did just a day ago,” said head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch. “It was a complete team effort and everyone did their part to make sure that we won and I am really proud of the team for that.”
Freshman Francheska Savage (Ft. Myers, Fla.) recorded a career-high 17 kills, posted a .517 hitting percentage and recorded six blocks in the winning effort.
Junior Jamie Grass (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) posted a team-high 15 digs.
Miami posted a .197 hitting percentage while the Red Storm had a .134 hitting percentage.
The Hurricanes take a break from conference action traveling to face FAU Wednesday at 7 p.m.
