CORAL GABLES, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Redshirt freshman Francheska Savage set a career-high with six total blocks to lead the University of Miami volleyball team to a 3-0 (33-31, 30-23, 30-18) over in-state rival South Florida on Tuesday night in Tampa, Fla.

The Hurricanes (16-4, 5-0 BIG EAST) held USF (8-13, 2-2 C-USA) to .087 hitting percentage, marking the second straight match UM has held an opponent under .090, to win their eight straigh match.

Savage’s six blocks upped her previous mark of five set last weekend against Georgetown which earned her BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. Savage turned in eight kills for a .400 hitting percentage to go along with five block assists and one solo. Junior Valeria Tipiana led the Hurricanes with 15 kills with a .522 hitting percentage and 18.0 total points while senior Leyre Santaella Sante added 10 kills in the Miami win. Freshman Jill Robinson led UM with 39 assists and set a career-high with five block assists.

The Bulls’ Shameka Mitchell led all players with a match-high 17 kills.

The Hurricanes will return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 21, hosting in-state foe Florida A&M at the Knight Sports Complex at 7 p.m.
