CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – For the second straight match, junior Luis Manrique clinched a win for the University of Miami men’s tennis team Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the Coral Gables campus as the Hurricanes dispensed with Dartmouth 5-2.

Manrique (Key Biscayne, Fla.) defeated Drew Dinkmeyer 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 and sealed the team win. It was Manrique’s third consecutive win after 11 straight losses to start the season.

Manrique credited the efforts of coach Bryan Getz and sports psychologist Mitch Cohen for his recent success and said that he has come to relish the opportunity to earn clutch wins for his team.

“That’s what you play tennis for,” Manrique said. “You get an opportunity and you feel all the nerves and all the pressure. It’s all on you and it’s a good feeling.”

Getz noted that Manrique has been close to playing his potential all season.

“He’s been on the cusp all year, he just hasn’t been able to get it done,” Getz said. “Nothing’s changed with him. His attitude’s been great all year. He’s been working hard all year. He just hadn’t won the key points. The last couple of matches, he’s mentally been able to get it done.”

Dartmouth took the doubles point as No. 34-ranked pairing Colin Purcell (Louisville, Ky.) and Andrew Golub (Miami, Fla.) took the Hurricanes’ sole win beating Neal Bobba and Drew Dinkmeyer 8-4.

UM handled the singles better as Golub defeated Bobba 6-2, 6-0 at first singles; Eric Hechtman handled David Webb 6-3, 6-4 at second singles; Purcell unhorsed Borko Kereshi 6-3, 6-3 at fourth singles; and Shauny Hoyes defeated Andres Reyes 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles.
