Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – Senior James Jones (Miami American) poured in a game-high 27 points and junior Darius Rice (Jackson, MS) added 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 69-64 win over Global Sports in an exhibition game at the Knight Sports Complex in Coral Gables, FL.

Former Hurricane Johnny Hemsley scored 15 points to lead Global Sports.

Jones, who was 11-15 from the field for the game, scored 19 of his points in the second-half as the Hurricanes overcame a 14-point half-time deficit for the victory. Freshman Robert Hite (Cincinnati, OH) scored in double-figures for the second consecutive game adding 10 points.

Miami, which trailed 42-28 at the break, shot just 9-27 (.333) from the field in the first-half including 0-13 from three-point range, and were out-rebounded 25-13.

The Hurricanes opened the second-half with a 21-6 run, led by Rice (nine points) and Jones (eight points), to take a 49-48 lead following a steal and lay-up from Hite with 7:13 left.

Miami led 63-58 with 2:12 to play, but saw that lead cut to just one (65-64) when Jason Harrison hit from three-point range with 1:04 on the clock. But senior Michael Simmons (Los Angeles, CA) and Rice each hit a pair of free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal the win.

Miami shot 65.2 percent (15-23) from the field in the second half while out-rebounding Global Sports 18-11 after the break. The Hurricanes also stepped up their defense in the second-half holding Global Sports to just 6-22 (.273) shooting after intermission. Global Sports shot 17-34 (.500) in the first half.
