Women's Basketball Falls To Houston, 83-76

HOUSTON, Texas-The Miami women’s basketball team fell 83-76 to Houston Saturday night at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas in the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
Miami ends the season 19-12 overall. The Lady Cougars (24-7) advance to play Valparaiso in the third round.
Senior Sheila James led Miami with 18 points, while senior Martha Bodley came off of the bench to add 17 points and nine rebounds.
The game was tied 35-all at halftime, the Lady Cougars rallied late in the second half to take the lead and the win over Miami.
The Hurricanes struck first and jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead from tip-off, both schools battle back and forth the remainder of the first half.
Chandi Jones gave Houston their first lead of the night at 46-45 with 16:21 left in regulation on a trey, yet the Hurricanes would continue to battle.
Freshman Shondra Bush tied the game, 50-50, on a lay up with 13:33 left.
As the clock wound down to the three-minute mark, Houston carried a slim 72-68 advantage asMiami turned the ball over to Valerie Muoneke, who then passed the ball to Shondra Bush. Bush sailed in a three-pointer to put the Lady Cougars up by eight.
With 1:18 left, Sheila James pulled the Hurricanes closer on a lay up before Jones, the game’s leading scorer with 22 overall on the night, sunk another jumper.
