Women's Basketball Falls To FIU, 71-65

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team fell to cross-town rival Florida International, 71-65, Saturday night in Coral Gables.

Martha Bodley (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) came off of the bench to lead the Hurricanes (15-9) with 17 points.

Shaquana Wilkins (Plymouth, Fla.) recorded her seventh double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

The Panthers (21-5) opened the game on a 9-0 run and kept the lead the entire first half. Miami cut the FIU lead to four points at halftime (32-28).

The Hurricanes opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take the lead for the first time in the game. The Panthers answered back and regained the lead at 10:49 (51-49).

Miami was able to tie the game with 7:40 on the clock (55-55) on a made jumper from Wilkins, but unable to take the lead again.

Miami shot 38% from the field, compared to 34% for FIU.

Gergana Slavtcheva led all scorers with 18 points.

Miami returns to conference action, facing No. 20 Virginia Tech Wednesday night.
