Women's Basketball Beats Georgetown, 64-56

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Sophomore Shaquana Wilkins (Plymouth, Fla.) recorded her sixth double-double of the season to lead the Miami women’s basketball team to a, 64-56, victory over Georgetown in McDonough Arena Wednesday night.

Wilkins scored 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Miami (15-8, 8-5 in the BIG EAST).

Georgetown turned the ball over 15 times in the first half and shot only 37% from the field. Miami’s inside play dominated the Hoyas as the tandem of Wilkins and Chanivia Broussard tallied 16 of the team’s 33 first half points. Heading into the break GU was down seven, 33-26.

The Hurricane lead was cut to four in the opening minutes of the second half. Miami’s lead see-sawed between four and seven for the next six minutes until the Hurricanes went on a 6-0 run to open the largest lead of the ballgame at 10 with 5:39 to play.

Georgetown continued to battle and made a 7-0 run. The run was started by a jumper from Walker, followed by a steal and breakaway lay-up by Shawntese Charles and culminated with a three pointer from Mary Lisicky, cutting the Miami lead to three with 3:10 to play.

Miami closed the game in the final three minutes by nailing 13 of 16 free throws.For the night the Hoyas were outrebounded 39-29 and had 23 turnovers compared to theHurricanes’ 21. Miami ended the evening 19 of 26 from the charity stripe while GU shot 11 of 17.

Broussard finished with 14 points and six rebounds.

Miami will take a break from conference play hosting cross-town rival FIU Saturday night.
