2001-2002 Women's Basketball Schedule Released

UM WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES THE 2001-2002 SCHEDULEThe Hurricanes face Texas in the Orange Bowl Classic on Dec. 9 at American Airlines Arena.
CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Games versus national powerhouses such as Texas, Rutgers, Connecticut and Notre Dame and 15 home contests highlight the University of Miami 2001-2002 women’s basketball schedule.
The Hurricanes have had one of the nation’s toughest schedules over the years and this season will be no different featuring six teams that advanced to postseason play last season.
“We have a very challenging schedule again this year,” said head coach Ferne Labati. “To improve and grow as a team we have to play on a competitive level. Our goals are set very high this year and in order to obtain those goals we have to compete with the highest level of competition.”
The Hurricanes tip off the 2001-2002 season on a three-game home stand in Knight Sports Complex on Nov. 18 facing Iona, Northwestern on Nov. 21 and IUPUI on Nov. 23.
The month of Nov. is closed out at South Florida on the 27th.
Miami then travels to face SEC opponent Kentucky on Dec. 1 before returning home to open up BIG EAST play with West Virginia on Dec. 4.
The Hurricanes then face Texas in the Orange Bowl Classic on Dec. 9 at American Airlines Arena.A game with Florida Atlantic on Dec. 15 in Boca Raton, Fla. is next for the Hurricanes.
Miami will then host the Gatorade Holiday Classic Dec. 27-28, which includes Yale, Bowling Green and Lehigh.
UM plays host to Minnesota for the first time in over 13 years on Dec. 30, before returning to BIG EAST play hosting the defending National Champions the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Three of the Hurricanes first five conference games are on the road. Play continues at Rutgers on Jan. 5, on to West Virginia Jan. 8 and ends at Connecticut on Jan. 12.
Miami returns home hosting Syracuse and Seton Hall on Jan. 16 and 19th. UM travels to St. John’s for a middle of the week game on Jan. 23, before hosting Rutgers on Jan. 26.
The Hurricanes round out the month of Jan. at Villanova on the 29th, then hosts Pittsburgh on Feb. 2.UM travels to Virginia Tech on Jan. Feb. 5 and Georgetown on Feb.13, before wrapping up non-conference play hosting Florida International on Feb. 16.
Conference play resumes at home with Virginia Tech on Feb. 20, then on the road at Providence on Feb. 23.
Miami closes out the regular season on Feb. 26 hosting Boston College.
The Hurricanes will play two exhibition games to start the season. The Lokomotiva Bratislava a Slovakian team will make an appearance on Nov. 9, before UM takes on the All Star Girls Report Nov. 13.
