CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami’s 2001 newcomers conducted their second 90-minute practice in shorts and shells Tuesday afternoon in hot and sunny conditions at the Greentree Practice Field, culminating the first day of preseason workouts for the Hurricanes.
“The second practice was much better than the first, as is usually the case,” Coker said. “The kids knew where to go and that helps us get things done more quickly. It wasn’t a long practice, cut with 10 or 11 guys on each side of the ball it doesn’t take long to get worn down. They seem to be handling the heat pretty well, but we won’t really hit it hard for a few days.”
All but one of the Hurricanes participated in the workout. Coker reported that freshman receiver Roscoe Parrish (Miami, FL/Miami Senior HS) is sitting out practice because of issues related to enrollment. Coker said that the issues pending involve his admission to the University, but that he has met all NCAA admission requirements. “It’s more of a `check’s in the mail’ type of thing, a paperwork issue that we expect to be resolved very soon,” Coker said.
The newcomers have one workout on Wednesday, starting at 9:20 a.m., before taking Thursday off for Photo/Media Day. Miami’s veterans report on Wednesday and the full varsity begins two-a-day practices Friday, Aug. 10, with workouts slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All workouts this week are open to the public.
