Women's Basketball Plays Host To St. John's

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team will play St. John’s for the second time this season as they play host to the Red Storm Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes (11-11 overall, 4-7 in the BIG EAST) are currently in a tie for eighth place in the conference standings with Syracuse, St. John’s (7-5 overall, 2-9 in the BIG EAST) is currently in 13th place.

Miami won the first meeting, 67-51, in Jamaica, NY earlier in the season. UM is on a three-game winning streak over the Red Storm and have won the last five out of six meetings.

Sheila James (Rubonia, Fla.) led Miami last week with back-to-back double-doubles. She scored 17 points and dished out 10 assists in the win over West Virginia and scored 18 points and picked up 11 rebounds in the loss to Seton Hall.

Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) leads the team averaging 12.6 points per game.

Miami will be without starter Meghan Saake (Wellington, Fla.) for the first time this season. Saake, who has started every game dating back last season, suffered a bone bruise on her left knee in the game with Seton Hall Saturday afternoon.

The Red Storm are led in scoring by Rasheedah Brown, who averages 15.0 points per game.
