Women's Basketball Falls To Providence, 77-60

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team fell 77-60 to Providence College Wednesday night at Knight Sports Complex in a BIG EAST matchup.
Miami drops to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in the BIG EAST, while Providence improves to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
This is only the second time the Friars have managed to beat Miami in Knight Sports Complex. Miami is 7-2 all-time at home versus PC.
Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) led the Hurricanes with 17 points and seven rebounds. Four UM players scored in double figures in the losing effort, Alicia Hartlaub (Schaefferstown, Pa.), Dalia Clarke (Antigua, West Indies) and Sheila James (Rubonia, Fla.) all scored 10 points a piece.
The Hurricanes opened the game on a 7-0 run before entering a three minute dry spell where the Friars went on an 11-0 run to take the 11-7 lead with 14:36 remaining in the half.
Providence continued to chip away at the lead while holding Miami to its lowest scoring half of the season. PC led 39-21 at halftime after the Hurricanes shot a dismal 26.9% from the field.
The Friars came out strong in the second half maintaining a double digit lead throughout the game. UM cut PC’s lead to 12 with 10:56 remaining in the game, but the Friars answered back with a 7-0 run to secure the win.
For the first time this season Miami committed more turnovers than its opponent did, UM had 25 turnovers compared to 23 for the Friars.
The Hurricanes shot 39.0% for the game, while PC shot 43.3% from the field.
The Miami/PC game will air on Fox SportsNet Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
Miami will take a break from BIG EAST action, playing host to Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Knight Sports Complex.
