Women's Basketball Falls 67-55 To Fairfield

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team fell 67-55 to Fairfield University Friday night in Knight Sports Complex.
Miami falls to 4-4 overall, while the Stags improve to 8-2 overall. Fairfield now leads the all-time series 3-2 over the Hurricanes.
Alicia Hartlaub (Schaefferstown, Pa.) led the UM offense with 12 points, while Sheila James (Rubonia, Fla.) added 11 points.
James opened the game with a three-pointer at 19:33 to take the 3-0 lead before the Stags went on a 19-3 run with 13:55 left in the half. The Hurricanes answered back with 15-2 run cutting Fairfield’s lead to one point (21-20) with 7:40 on the clock.
Meghan Saake made hit a jumper at 3:19 to put UM on top by one (29-28). Miami ended the first half with a three-point lead (33-30).
The Stags opened the second half on a 17-2 run and regained the lead (47-35) with 12:12 remaining in the game.
Miami got within six points with 6:58 remaining in the game, but that was the closest the Hurricanes would come to the lead.
Gail Strumpf led the Stags with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Fairfield shot 60.0% from the field in the second half and 50.0% for the game, compared to 39.3% for the Hurricanes.
The Stags outrebounded the Hurricanes 41-31, Miami is 0-4 on the season when being outrebounded by an opponent.
The Hurricanes are back in action on Dec. 28th as they play host to New Hampshire at 9 p.m. in Knight Sports Complex for the 2000 Gatorade Holiday Classic.
